  • Triple Threat is a multi-year, multi-level program that develops the three essential performance competencies required in musical theatre: dancing, singing, and acting. Incorporating challenging choreography and vocals from popular and classic Broadway musicals, taught at a pace and performance level appropriate to each student’s level, students learn core skills such as acting and characterization, vocal technique and styles, dance steps and choreography, and how to be expressive as an actor while also singing and dancing.

Triple Threat is different every semester and many teens enroll throughout middle and high school. Whether students are at beginning, intermediate, or advanced levels of experience, this energetic and active class teaches and challenges them towards the next level, developing their ability to engage the whole body, building their confidence for auditions and shows, and growing their knowledge of a wide variety of musical theatre styles and repertoire. Those who put in the time and effort required to excel find that they become much more skilled and competent performers in general, all while having fun in a safe and supportive environment.

Past classes have learned numbers from musicals such as Hamilton, 42nd Street, Hairspray, Matilda, Singin’ in the Rain, Wicked, A Chorus Line, Matilda, Fiddler on the Roof, James and the Giant Peach, Once on This Island, The Music Man, Hairspray, High School Musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and more. Selections depend on enrollment numbers in each level, so sign up early! The semester will end in a free fully-staged performance for friends and family.

  • There are five levels of Triple Threat in our program. Levels correspond to a combination of factors: a student’s age/grade, performing arts experience level, and number of semesters in our Triple Threat program:

    • Level One (ages 12-14): All middle school students

    • Level Two (ages 14-16): All high school freshman and high school sophomores who are new to our Triple Threat program.

    • Level Three (ages 15+): High school sophomores who have completed two semesters of Level 2, all high school juniors, and high school seniors who are new to our program.

    • Level Four (ages 16+): High school juniors and seniors who have completed two semesters of Level 3.

    • Level Five (ages 16+): High school seniors who have completed two semesters of Level 4.

If you have have questions about which Triple Threat level your student should be placed in, please email us at classes@getintotheact.org.

  • What musical theatre production isn’t made spectacular with the performance of a truly great tap dance number? With this in mind, tap will be taught to our homeschool students with the aim of developing better rhythm, style, and sound, with an emphasis on developing proper tap technique and producing clear tap sounds.

With movement also at the heart of musical theatre dance, jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality, and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Exercises will focus on increased range of motion in the feet and ankles, balance, control, and speed of movement. And while the students are working their bodies, they will be getting exercise and having fun!

If you have any questions about whether this class or another dance class is best for your student, please contact us at classes@getintotheact.org for assistance.

  • The Prince and the Pauper Roles List

When Edward Tudor, Prince of Wales, sees poor beggar Tom Canty mistreated by one of his guards, he invites the pauper into the palace for a bite to eat. After conversing about each other’s lives, the prince suggests they exchange clothing for fun.

In Tom’s rags, the prince looks like a “peacock fell in the mud ’n’ froze”, while Tom claims the royal regalia is so heavy it’s “like to break me back.”  But the fun and games soon become harsh reality when the prince’s guards mistake Edward for the pauper and throw him into the street, while Tom is ushered in to handle important stately affairs. Wearing each other’s shoes (literally), Edward and Tom discover what life is like “on the other side,” – and it doesn’t take long for each of them to appreciate the life they always knew.

What they each learn about the other’s world will illuminate their lives — and yours — forever. Mark Twain’s classic tale comes to life onstage, freely and masterfully adapted with dynamic female roles, creative staging and a perfect balance of poignant and hilarious moments.

dance Call Workshop

Ms. Eliana, Ms. Erin, & Ms. Dylan

Dance Audition Skills Workshop

Ages 7-18 (Multiple Levels)

Two Sessions: August 4 & 10

**Enroll in non-dance classes and get this workshop for 35%-100% Off! See Tuition Information for Special Promotion Offers.

  • Everyone prepares a monologue and/or songs for auditions, but what about the Dance Call? How do you dress? How do you warm up? How do you learn the dance steps quickly and accurately, so you can show the choreographer what you are capable of? What if you’re asked to do something like improvise or demonstrate special skills?

Whether you are brand new to dance auditions or a seasoned pro with years of experience, this workshop will give you valuable tools for maximizing this part of the audition. Three of our mainstage choreographers will guide you through the process, giving everyone a chance to learn and ask questions. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how to master this important audition skill!

    Session 1:

    • Proper attire for a Dance Call - and what to do if you also have a callback that same day?

    • Warm your body up - what kind of stretches and exercises will get your body ready to move and avoid injury?

    • Learn a warmup you can use on your own!

    • Learning & Memory - tips for improving speed of learning and memory.

    • Mock Dance Call - Learn an eight 8-count combination and "audition" it.

    • How to learn from a video explained.

    In-between Sessions:

    • Video of choreography is available on Class Links on the evening after the first class. Students are expected to learn it independently, just like they would for an audition.

    Session 2:

    • Listening for clues - what does the choreographer or director want to see from you when you audition the combination you learned?

    • Identifying performance anxiety and learning to use it to your benefit!

    • What do you do when the music is playing and you're waiting for 5-6-7-8?

    • Special tricks and improvisation - how do you prepare in case you are asked to share extra tricks, do an “across the floor” combination, or to improvise?

    • Quick review of video combination - once through with counts, Q&A, run it to music, audition it!

    SCHEDULE NOTES FOR THIS WORKSHOP:

Workshop also meets on one Wednesday: (9/10)

  • Ready to think on your feet, step into the shoes of unforgettable characters, and learn how to better connect with your fellow performers all while laughing 'til it hurts? This exciting new class invites students to jump into the world of spontaneous storytelling, where grounded presence, active listening and true connection lead the way. We will be diving into two of the most essential skills in improvisational theater: building a strong base reality and finding the game of a scene.

We'll learn how to quickly establish the "who, what, and where" of a scene so that everyone — actors and audience alike — knows what’s going on. From there, we’ll explore how to identify and heighten what’s unusual or funny about that world — that’s the game — and make it the engine of the scene.

This class is a fun and supportive introduction to core improv concepts, perfect for beginners or anyone curious about how scenes come to life. Students will be challenged to think creatively, take risks, and collaborate — all while having a great time. No experience necessary, just a willingness to play!

Writing for the Stage

Dramatic Writing Workshop

Ages 11-18

Eight Sessions: September 8-October 27

**Enroll in non-dance classes and get this workshop for 35%-100% Off! See Tuition Information for Special Promotion Offers.

  • How can a few lines of dialogue grow into an interesting scene, then another, then another, until you have a play? Or a musical? Maybe a movie? Perhaps a podcast? And what role do settings and stage directions and lists of props and character descriptions play in creating a world for your characters to live in?

You decide your project, then come join in on this workshop to learn more about how to spin your ideas into a plot or a compelling through-line, how to create believable characters who will come to life on (and off) the page, and how to show—not tell—your audience about the world only you can create. Hand-on activities in class will add to your storytelling toolbox, while sharing some of your work with others will give you a chance to try out your dramatic writing on actual people. In the spring, those who wish to participate may elect to direct one of their scenes for an actual performance!

Whether you have never written a line of dialogue before or whether you have a hundred scripts piling up in your closet at home, this workshop is for you!
